They made very high ends way back when they were making the low ends that are mentioned in the list above, like many makers here in Japan, they covered all the bases.from beginner to pro. The Local Rock Inn has a Morris reissue of one of those old high end models from decades ago, they were certainly on par with Yamaha in their day and the newer high end stuff is outstanding and by the way, they still make low ends too just not in Japan anymore. That Rock Inn model was ordered by the chain and sold exclusively by them and costs as much as a Martin or Gibson in the shop so yeah, Morris is capable of building extremely high end guitars and have been for decades.just that most of the old stuff seen, and that applies to Japan too, is low end older models, possibly because owners of the good ones aren`t selling and the low ends are not rare here.

Here, morris is pretty much known that's the old morris acoustics where they used to copy martins. My mentor has a 70's morris and he also owned a couple of yamaha's, asami and some other old japanese acoustics and he prefers the morris more. Sadly i didnt get to play his other guitars before he sold it.

At that time, we had been conducting extensive market research in the US by attending guitar contests and meeting with some of the top luthiers. We came to the conclusion that we needed to develop a guitar for fingerstyle players. We analyzed various fingerstyle playing styles and also received much valuable advice from top fingerstyle players, in order to develop this special guitar. In order to achieve the highest quality, we also came up with two production methods: “Luthier Made” which is built by one master luthier from beginning to end, and “Hand Made” which is built by a small group of experienced craftsmen, specializing in specific areas of the guitar making process.

I have a late 70’s Lotus LP copy that I rescued and gave new life and it is a killer sounding guitar I also have another rescue a Quest Atak 1 and it is odd in the fact that the bridge pickup is a single could while the bridge is a hum bucker this guitar also rocks. Hey Myles wondering about an old Morris guitar that I have had stored in its case for the past 30 yrs. The inside has the Chuck Wagon on the inside of it.just like the one you have above. There is also a TW83E on the stamp not sure if it is a model number or the person who inspected itjust wondering some history on this guitar.

The Morris Guitars company has been building quality handcrafted instruments in Nagano, Japan for a long time. Toshio Moridaira, the founder, was the first distributor in Japan to carry both Fender and Gibson lines. In 1964, due to his working relationship with Gibson, Mr. Moridaira was able to visit the Gibson factory in Kalamazoo, Michigan. An employee at Gibson nicknamed him “Mori” at that time.

On the left, a nearly perfect 1972 Mosrite Ventures Model. Next to that are a pair of Univox Hi-Flyers and a Silvertone Slider. This guitar is pretty cool because a) it has a wicked flame fiish and b) it has an individual slider volume for each pickup. This allows for a wide variety of tone setups because you can dial in as much or as little of each pickup you want. Cool.Somewhere along the way I decided to build my own Custom Mosrite Copy. I wanted to put together a guitar that had the Mosrite look but was built for repeated abuse as a stage guitar.
